Set just a couple of miles up the mountain from Makawao, Olinda sits high on the slopes of Haleakalā, climbing from around 1,800 to over 4,000 feet. Up here, palm trees give way to eucalyptus groves, misty pine forests, and rolling green pastures with sweeping views across central Maui. The area has a colorful history as well, having hosted Mark Twain during his travels and Jimi Hendrix for his 1970 Rainbow Bridge concert in an open cow pasture. Today, quiet country lanes branch off Olinda Road into secluded homesteads, ranches, and family farms.
