About Omao
Omao is a Kauai County CDP on the south side of Kauai, with Hawaii Route 50 crossing its north side and roads dropping toward the coast. Lihue lies northeast and Hanapepe west, while Kalaheo and Lawai sit close along the same south-shore network. The place is surrounded by the island's agricultural history and current small-farm landscape, so the name covers a rural settlement pattern spread across side roads and gardens.
Route 50 gives Omao its regional connection, while local life spreads across side roads, homes, churches, gardens, and working land. The area also sits near the Lawai International Center and the south Kauai coffee country, tying Omao into a chain of communities that share roads, schools, and errands. Omao's character comes from that in-between position: inland enough to feel tied to the hills, close enough to the coast and highway to stay part of the island's daily circuit. Garden roads, coffee plots, and Route 50 keep the surrounding communities linked through ordinary daily trips.
