Orange Lake, NY

Orange Lake is a census-designated place in the town of Newburgh, in Orange County. Thomas Donegan purchased the lake and surrounding land from Native Americans and divided the patent into farms; later, the Willson family helped popularize the Orange Lake name. The CDP is split among Valley Central, Newburgh, and Wallkill school districts, reflecting its in-between Hudson Valley geography. Orange Lake feels residential and semi-rural, with water, old farm patterns, and Newburgh-area commuting all shaping the community.
