Oro Valley, AZ

Oro Valley sits directly beneath the dramatic rocky peaks of Pusch Ridge, tucked between the Santa Catalina Mountains to the east and the Tortolitas to the north. Located just north of Tucson, it offers a scenic desert setting for its roughly 47,000 residents. People have lived in this river valley for generations, from ancient Native American settlements along Sutherland Wash to early Arizona homesteads. Steam Pump Ranch, located right along Oracle Road, preserves that Old West heritage while acting as a favorite weekend hangout. Settled in 1874 as a cattle operation and desert way station, the property still features original adobe buildings and historic gardens. Every Saturday morning, residents gather here for the weekly farmers market to pick up fresh produce, local honey, and artisan goods. From fall through spring, the town hosts regular weekend festivals on the ranch grounds with live music, food trucks, and family activities.

Beyond its quiet neighborhoods, Oro Valley has grown into a major hub for bioscience, healthcare, and research. Innovation Park on the north side is home to Roche Tissue Diagnostics, one of the region's largest private employers, alongside a University of Arizona technology incubator. The university also operates its College of Veterinary Medicine here, bringing faculty, students, and clinical research into the community. Having these major research campuses in town provides strong career opportunities and allows many professionals to work just minutes from home.

Getting around and staying active is simple throughout the area. Oracle Road runs straight south into Tucson, offering convenient routes for work, shopping, and trips to downtown. Locally, James D. Kriegh Park provides a year-round aquatic center, recreation areas, and sports fields right next to the county library. On the eastern edge of the community, Catalina State Park opens directly into the foothills with miles of trails winding past thousands of giant saguaros, giving residents instant access to hiking, trail running, and mountain biking.
