Oroville, WA

Oroville is an Okanogan County city at the south end of Osoyoos Lake, about four miles south of the Canadian border. The settlement began as Oro in 1892, named for the gold mines that drew prospectors and merchants; the post office pushed the name to Oroville in 1909. Today the international crossing to Osoyoos, British Columbia, the Okanogan River, and the Similkameen River all meet around the city’s north-country map. Oroville is a Washington border town where gold-rush naming, lake, rivers, and agriculture overlap.
