For one week every summer, Oshkosh transforms into the center of the aviation world. EAA AirVenture brings hundreds of thousands of pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and visitors from across the globe to Wittman Regional Airport. The sky fills with vintage warbirds, homebuilt planes, and daily air shows, turning the entire town into an energetic celebration of flight. For residents, it is an exciting annual tradition that brings a welcome economic boost to local businesses. Even after the fly-in wraps up, the world-class EAA Aviation Museum stays open year-round with interactive exhibits, historic aircraft, and community programs for all ages.

Oshkosh's identity is deeply rooted in the Fox River and Lake Winnebago. During the 19th century, the city grew around busy sawmills processing timber floated down the waterways, earning it the enduring nickname "Sawdust City." That heritage remains visible in the ornate Victorian homes along historic streets and the sturdy brick architecture downtown. Today, areas like the Sawdust District along the south shore are finding fresh purpose. Former lumber and factory sites now host community gathering spots, local craft breweries, an indoor sports arena, and scenic riverfront paths.
