Osseo, WI

Osseo is a Trempealeau County city at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Buffalo River. The 2020 census counted 1,811 residents. J.E. Irish platted the community in 1857, it became a village in 1893, and it was incorporated as a city in 1941. U.S. 10, U.S. 53, and Interstate 94 now meet around town, so the same river valley that shaped the first settlement also carries the modern road map.

Osseo's Scandinavian heritage shows up in Lake Martha Days and in the businesses along the highway corridor. Stoddard Park sits by Lake Martha with ball fields, picnic shelters, a swimming pool, and a golf course, while a hospital, schools, and library serve the city and nearby country. The Buffalo River is the constant feature: it forms the city's natural edge, affects where utilities can go, and brings the two forks together at Osseo. This is a Wisconsin crossroads with water underneath the street plan and a long history of turning a small settlement into a regional stop.
