Otisville, MI

Otisville is a Genesee County village in Forest Township, with 819 residents in the 2020 census. M-15 and M-57 meet at the village, about nineteen miles northeast of Flint, placing Otisville on the M-15 Heritage Route and within the Flint metropolitan area. Main Street holds small businesses, churches, and village services, while farms and commuter connections reach beyond the intersection. The road junction remains the easiest way to picture the place: a small village between Flint and the agricultural country of northeastern Genesee County.

Forest Township’s first land entry was recorded in 1836, and Henry Heister and his family arrived in 1837. The settlement’s lumber chapter began when Francis Otis and his brothers bought a local sawmill in 1852 and owned thousands of acres of woodland. The place was called Forest in 1855, renamed Otisville in 1861, and incorporated as a village in 1877. Today the village carries that lumber origin into a setting of small businesses, public schools, community events, and roads that feed the Flint area. Otisville is a Michigan crossroads where a sawmill name, two state highways, and farm country meet.
