Overland, NE

Overland is a census-designated place in Hamilton County, set along the south side of the Platte River about three miles south of Central City. The 2020 census counted 202 residents. Nebraska Highway 66 runs through the community, while Highway 14 lies to the west, so the place sits on a small road network tied to Central City and the wider Platte Valley. The river gives Overland its strongest geographic marker: broad lowlands, open fields, and a north-side horizon that changes with the water and the seasons.

Names in this part of Nebraska often follow the travel routes that made settlement possible, and Overland fits that pattern. The Platte Valley was a natural highway for travelers moving west, even though the river itself was difficult to navigate.
