About Owatonna

Owatonna is the county seat of Steele County in southern Minnesota, settled around the Straight River in the 1850s. It is home to the Steele County Fairgrounds and has a strong regional-service role for nearby farm communities. The former Minnesota State Public School campus, later preserved and reused by the city, adds a serious local history layer.
