Owensville is a Gasconade County city on Missouri Highways 28 and 19, about 22 miles north of I-44. The 2020 census counted 2,757 residents. Local legend says early merchant Frank Owens and blacksmith Edward Luster settled on the name while playing horseshoes in 1847, a wonderfully specific origin for a town that later became a county crossroads.
