About Owensville

Owensville is a Clermont County village of 786 residents in the 2020 census, east of Cincinnati in the rolling rural edge of the metro area. The place was platted as Boston in 1836, but its post office had used the Owensville name since 1832, giving the village two names and two dates in its early story. The post-office name eventually won out, and Owensville became the name carried on the local map.

Today the village has an Owensville branch of Clermont County Public Library, giving residents a local stop for books, programs, and countywide library services. Main streets and county roads lead toward Batavia, Milford, and Cincinnati, while the surrounding farms and wooded hills keep the village's older Clermont County setting close at hand. Local history remains visible in the name change and in the buildings that line the village streets. Owensville is a place where a postal name outlasted an earlier plat, and the library provides one of the clearest civic gathering points.
