About Owenton
Owenton became Owen County’s seat in 1822 because the town sits near the middle of the county, and its courthouse square still does civic work today. The city incorporated in 1828. The square’s 1858 Greek Revival building houses county government, while its upstairs courtroom doubles for Fiscal Court meetings and other gatherings. Main Street holds the Owen County Historical Society Museum, and the county’s tobacco-barn mural trail carries the farming story out along the back roads. Owenton is north-central Kentucky in courthouse-square form, with county business, local history, and tobacco country meeting on the same few blocks.
