Oxbow, ND

Oxbow is a Cass County city 15 miles south of Fargo, set along the Red River in the part of North Dakota where a small municipal footprint can still feel connected to a much larger workday. The 2020 census counted 381 residents, and the town incorporated on October 25, 1988. Since then, its story has been less about a traditional main-street settlement and more about a residential community choosing its own civic name while staying in Fargo's orbit. The short drive to the metro is part of the point, but the river and open land keep Oxbow from feeling like a subdivision with a mailing address.

Locally, Oxbow Golf and Country Club is the obvious landmark, giving the community a gathering place and a wide green edge against the Red River country. The town's population grew from 305 in 2010 to 381 in 2020, a noticeable change for a place this size. You can picture Oxbow through that contrast: golf, river bends, and newer homes on one side; Cass County roads and Fargo commutes on the other. It is a small city with a very recent incorporation date, but its day-to-day character comes from making a residential enclave feel like a place with its own front door.
