About Oxford

Oxford is a Benton County town in Oak Grove Township, founded in 1843 as the county's first seat. Its brick-paved town square still gives the center a distinct shape, while State Road 352 and nearby U.S. Route 52 connect the town to the surrounding farms and the Lafayette area. Benton County's agricultural landscape stretches out in corn, soybeans, and wind turbines, with Oxford's streets providing the compact frame.

Oxford, Indiana welcome

The town is known as the home of Dan Patch, the famous harness horse foaled here in 1896; the barn associated with him still stands. A summer farmer's market, two parks, town hall, Oak Grove Country Club, and Benton Central Jr./Sr. High School keep the center in regular use. The square still marks town life. Dan Patch Days carries the horse's name into an annual community gathering.
