Living in Packanack Lake means being part of a close-knit lake community inside Wayne Township. The neighborhood is managed in tandem with the Packanack Lake Country Club and Community Association, which oversees around 1,500 homes. Joining the association gives residents access to the lake, private beaches, the clubhouse, tennis courts, and a scenic nine-hole golf course. Membership includes an initiation fee and annual dues, so if you are house hunting here, make sure your real estate agent or attorney checks the current fees and confirms any past-due balances before closing.

Originally planned in the late 1920s, the neighborhood grew from farmland into a classic year-round enclave. Homes wind along the curving shoreline of Lake Drive East and Lake Drive West, with quiet side streets branching off into the hills. Commuters appreciate the convenient location, with Route 23 right to the west and the Newark-Pompton Turnpike to the east. For direct rides into Manhattan, NJ Transit bus 194 stops nearby for trips straight to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. It is also an easy neighborhood to explore on foot, with paved loops along the water that make for great morning jogs or evening strolls.

Life here revolves around the water and a busy community calendar. During the warmer months, residents head to East Beach and West Beach for swimming, sailing, kayaking, and youth sports leagues. The community stays connected through the Pack-A-News, a local newsletter that has been delivered to doorsteps for generations. Annual traditions are a big part of the appeal, from the July Packanack Day festival and fireworks to fall costume parades. During the holidays, the neighborhood puts on one of its most famous events, when Santa flies in and lands by helicopter right near the lake.
