Pakala Village, HI

Pākalā Village is a census-designated place in Kauaʻi County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The 2020 census counted 286 residents. Pākalā Village is also called "Pākalā Camp", named for the temporary living quarters of plantation workers. Pākalā Camp consisted of employee and retiree housing for workers at the Gay & Robinson sugarcane plantation in the ahupuaʻa of Makaweli, the last remaining sugarcane plantation on Kauai. In Pakala Village, history and present-day settings sit close enough to belong to the same local picture.
