Palatine Bridge, NY

Palatine Bridge is a Montgomery County village on the north bank of the Mohawk River, with 796 residents in the 2020 census. The village is in the Town of Palatine, across the river from Canajoharie. Its name points to two layers of local history: Palatine Germans settled the area, and a bridge built in 1878 gave the community its modern form. The village incorporated in 1867, and Route 5, Route 10, the river, and the old rail corridor still frame its map.

Bridge Street crosses the Mohawk into Canajoharie, while the Palatine Bridge Historic District follows the older village core along the river road and the route up into the town. Historic homes, the former railroad setting, and the bridge connection make the village feel like a crossing first and a municipality second. Canajoharie’s opposite bank, the New York State Barge Canal, and the Mohawk Valley all sit close by.
