Palestine, IN

Palestine is an unincorporated Kosciusko County community and Census-designated place on the west shore of Palestine Lake in Harrison Township. State Road 25 is the main line through the place, with Warsaw about six miles northeast; the lake and Trimble Creek give the settlement a physical edge that distinguishes it from a generic rural crossroads. The public lake-access site is off State Road 25 in Palestine, so the road serves both as the route through the community and the approach to the water.

Palestine was laid out in 1837, and its post office opened in 1839 before closing in 1903. The place grew as a small inland town, then lost some of that role when rail service favored neighboring communities. Today the local map is mostly lake, homes, county roads, and the Warsaw orbit: residents encounter Palestine as a lakeshore community with a named historic settlement at its center, while the public access point keeps the shoreline connected to the wider county.
