About Pamplico
Pamplico is a Florence County town in the Pee Dee region, about three miles west of the Pee Dee River and 19 miles southeast of Florence. The 2020 census counted 1,061 residents. South Carolina 51 runs through the center, and Florence County School District 2 brings Hannah-Pamplico Elementary/Middle School and Hannah-Pamplico High School together on one campus. Main Street, town offices, churches, farm roads, and the route toward Myrtle Beach make up the daily map.
Pamplico incorporated in 1916 and grew into one of South Carolina's larger tobacco markets, especially during the 1950s and 1960s. That market has faded, but the town still carries the farm-and-railroad pattern of southeastern Florence County. Florence supplies the larger set of medical, shopping, and employment trips, while Interstate 95 and Interstate 20 sit within the regional road network. The downtown streetscape project completed in 2010 left the center with a more legible civic spine, and school events keep the town's calendar anchored locally. Pamplico is a small Pee Dee town where tobacco history, school life, and the roads to Florence and the coast overlap.
