Panguitch is a city and the county seat of Garfield County, Utah, situated in the Sevier River valley. Deriving its name from a Southern Paiute word meaning big fish and settled by Mormon pioneers under Jens Nielsen in 1864, the historic community of approximately 1,701 is served by the Garfield County School District for public education locally.
