Parker City, IN

Parker City is a Randolph County town in eastern Indiana, within Monroe Township, with 1,278 residents in the 2020 census. It began as Morristown, platted in 1851, but the arrival of the Bellefontaine and Indiana Railroad brought the Parker name; a post office has operated here since 1853. The railroad tied this small settlement to the wider network that shaped east-central Indiana. The old rail route also connected Parker City to a much broader farming area, and remnants of that pattern remain in the surrounding roads and fields.

Monroe Central School Corporation formed in 1956 when Green, Stoney Creek, Parker, and Farmland schools consolidated. The district still gives Parker City a shared school map across the surrounding farm country. The town’s elevation is about 1,025 feet, and its streets sit among fields, small creeks, and old rail corridors. Parker City is a place where the name changed with the railroad, the post office stayed put, and a consolidated school system carried several rural communities into one civic orbit.
