Parker Strip, AZ

Parker Strip is a La Paz County census-designated place stretched along the Colorado River between Parker Dam and Headgate Rock Dam. The name describes the land as much as the settlement: a narrow run of riverfront communities, marinas, boat launches, beaches, and desert roads on the Arizona side, with the water forming the boundary toward California. Parker Dam sits at the upper end, where the Bureau of Reclamation stores water for the Colorado River Aqueduct and Central Arizona Project. Lake Havasu begins behind the dam, giving the Strip its long reservoir reach.

People here read the map by the river. The 16.5-mile Parker Strip connects to Parker and the Colorado River Indian Tribes area, while the backcountry opens toward the Arizona Peace Trail and desert public lands. Weekends bring boats, fishing, swimming, and off-road traffic; the rest of the year is shaped by permanent river homes, marinas, service businesses, and the reservoir itself. Parker Strip is not a conventional town with one main square. It is a river corridor whose identity comes from the dams, the water, the desert, and the habit of measuring every road by how quickly it gets you back to the Colorado.
