About Patterson

Patterson's center follows a circle-and-spoke plan laid out when the community was founded in 1908. Plaza Circle forms the inner ring around El Centro Park and the historical museum, El Circulo Avenue forms an outer ring, and streets radiate through a 63.6-acre downtown containing shops, homes, City Hall, the post office, and other civic buildings. Patterson's 2024 downtown plan contrasts that historic core with the newer west side near Interstate 5, where much of the city's growth has occurred since the 1980s and where limited street connections separate some neighborhoods from older Patterson. The change is visible in the numbers: population rose from 20,413 in the 2010 census to 23,781 in 2020, and the July 2025 estimate reached 26,587. Several recurring services and events bring people back to the older center.

The Patterson Apricot Fiesta held its 54th annual edition in 2026, filling a three-day weekend with downtown activities tied to the area's agricultural heritage. The Patterson branch of Stanislaus County Library on North Salado offers public computers and Chromebooks, Wi-Fi, mobile printing, scanning and fax services, children's computers, and two reservable community rooms. During summer and fall, the city-owned aquatic center operates a six-lane, 25-yard instructional and competitive pool alongside a beach-entry recreational section; its schedule includes recreation swim, lessons, water aerobics, camps, and swim-team use. Public transportation reaches beyond the city as well. StanRTA Route 40 runs daily between Patterson and the Modesto Transit Center through Westley, Grayson, and south Modesto, while weekday Route 100 connects stops on Ward and Las Palmas with Turlock and Tracy Hills.
