Paulding, OH

Paulding is the county-seat village at the center of Paulding County, about 64 miles southwest of Toledo. The 2020 census counted 3,555 residents. The village was laid out in 1848 as a deliberate county-center settlement, and county government moved here from Charloe in 1851. That decision still organizes the place: the courthouse, village offices, local businesses, and Paulding Exempted Village Schools give the center a countywide role. The older working story ran through farms and small factories. Paulding once processed sugar beets and tomatoes from nearby fields, though both plants have closed; today the village serves as a bedroom community and a service center for the surrounding agricultural county.

Paulding High School, the large Water Street elementary campus, and downtown streets keep activity tied to the village core. Paulding's local scoop is that it was planned before it settled into its modern rhythm. Its county-seat location was the original economic bet, and the courthouse-and-school pattern remains the clearest way to read the village.
