Paxtang, PA

Paxtang is a borough just east of Harrisburg, between the capital city and the suburban roads of Lower Paxton Township. It was incorporated in 1914 and still carries a much older name: the settlement grew around Paxtang, a Lenape place-name often rendered as 'where the waters stand.' Paxton Presbyterian Church and its graveyard preserve the clearest physical link to that early history. The borough's present-day landmarks are close together. Paxtang Elementary School, the municipal building on Derry Street, Paxtang Park, and Saussaman Park sit along streets leading west toward Harrisburg. Paxtang Park is a trailhead for the Capital Area Greenbelt, giving the borough a direct connection to the region's larger path system. Central Dauphin School District serves local students. Houses, local businesses, civic buildings, church grounds, and park edges make Paxtang a small municipality woven into Harrisburg's east side.
