About Pearl River
Pearl River is one of the eight communities of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians’ reservation in Neshoba County, and the community’s story belongs first to the Tribe. The Mississippi Choctaw reorganized under a constitution ratified in 1945, after generations of families stayed in the region through removal, land loss, and pressure to leave. Today Pearl River is tied to tribal government, schools, cultural programs, and the Choctaw Town Center, with the Chahta Immi Cultural Center preserving collections and community history. The useful local read is not a generic rural settlement: it is a Choctaw community with its own institutions, memory, and place inside a sovereign tribal nation.
