Pecos, NM

Pecos is a San Miguel County village in a high river valley east of Santa Fe, with the 2020 census counting 1,392 residents. The Pecos River comes down from the Santa Fe National Forest, and the village sits near the pass that links mountain country with the high plains. That geography made Pecos a crossroads long before today's road trips: Pueblo communities, Spanish settlers, Santa Fe Trail travelers, ranchers, and Civil War soldiers all moved through the corridor.
