Peebles, OH

Peebles is an Adams County village founded along the Cincinnati and Eastern Railway in 1881, where the tracks crossed the older route of Zane's Trace. The village was named for John G. Peebles, who persuaded the railroad to come through, and by 1906 it was hosting Chautauqua Days with public lectures and concerts. A monument in the village recalls the 1957 World's Plowing Match and Conservation Exposition. Peebles is an Ohio River Valley place whose story runs through a railroad, an old road, and a town that kept finding reasons to gather.
