About Pemberville

Pemberville sits on the forks of the Portage River in Wood County. The first survey of the town was completed in 1854, and the place took its name from James Pember, who built its first frame house. The village organized in 1876, while the post office dates to 1866. The detail worth remembering is upstairs: the Pemberville Opera House occupies the second floor of town hall. Built in 1891 and restored in 1999, it is still a working theater and is counted among Ohio’s oldest operating opera houses. In Pemberville, the river sets the geography and the town hall keeps the encore.
