Pepperdine University, CA

Pepperdine University is a census-designated place in Malibu built around the university's 830-acre campus in the Santa Monica Mountains. The institution began in Los Angeles as George Pepperdine College, then acquired Malibu land in 1968 and dedicated the new property in 1970. The first Malibu students arrived in 1972, followed by Phillips Theme Tower and Stauffer Chapel in 1973. Those dates give the place a campus history distinct from the surrounding Malibu street grid.
