Perrysville, OH

Perrysville is an Ashland County village along the Black Fork of the Mohican River, where the 2020 census counted 729 residents. The area was permanently settled around 1810, and the village was laid out as Freeport in 1815 before taking the name Perrysville. Public schooling began in 1816, first in a schoolhouse taught by Asa Brown; an academy opened in 1865 and operated for twenty-six years. The Black Fork still passes the village's southwestern edge. Perrysville sits roughly thirty miles from Mansfield, Ashland, Wooster, and Mount Vernon.

Perrysville's present-day map connects river geography with the Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village School District. Perrysville Junior High closed in 2012 and merged with Loudonville High School, continuing a long shift toward shared regional institutions. Pleasant Hill Lake, completed in 1936 as a flood-control reservoir on the Clear Fork of the Mohican, lies nearby, along with Mohican Forest and Malabar Farm. Perrysville is a small river village whose schools, watercourses, and nearby public landscapes all point toward the wider Mohican valley.
