About Petersburg

Tucked into Nelson County along Highway 2, Petersburg is a quiet, friendly community with deep railroad roots and a fun backstory. In 1884, two neighboring homesteaders decided to build a stop on the Great Northern Railway and flipped a coin to see who got naming rights. Levi Peterson won the toss, christening the new townsite. Today, this peaceful prairie town is home to around 160 people who appreciate a close-knit neighborhood feel and plenty of room to breathe.
