Pettisville, OH

Pettisville occupies the line between Clinton and German townships in southwestern Fulton County, a community laid out in 1857 with a post office of its own that same year. The name likely came from a local railroad contractor named Pettis, and the settlement grew in the flat farm country west of Wauseon. County Road 19 connects north to Ohio State Route 2, with Wauseon five miles east and Archbold five miles west, so the local map still has the feel of a place positioned between county and regional centers.

Pettisville's strongest present-day institution is its school. Pettisville Local Schools serve the community, and the Pettisville School Foundation has helped expand the campus, fund scholarships, and support school-community projects since 1986. Pettisville Community Park adds the outdoor gathering place, while German Township and Clinton Township handle the split geography on either side of town. Pettisville is a farm-country settlement with a railroad-era name, a two-township address, and a school that carries much of the community's current energy.
