Philip, SD

Set along the Bad River in west-central South Dakota, Philip is a welcoming rural hub of about 750 people that serves as the seat of Haakon County. The town takes its name from James "Scotty" Philip, the pioneer rancher best known for helping save the American bison from extinction. Daily life centers around a walkable downtown, a classic 1930s courthouse, and quiet residential streets where neighbors quickly get to know one another.
