About Phillipsburg

Phillipsburg is the seat of Phillips County, positioned at U.S. 36 and U.S. 183 in northwestern Kansas. The city was organized in 1872 and named for William A. Phillips, but its most tangible early landmark may be Fort Bissell, hurriedly built in 1873 and now kept in Phillipsburg City Park. The annual Riverless Festival adds a very Kansas joke to the calendar: the city celebrates what it does not have by filling the streets with a festival. Phillipsburg USD 325 serves local students, and the North Fork of the Solomon River runs through the broader geography. Phillipsburg is a county-seat town with a frontier fort, dry humor, and two highways crossing the middle.
