Philmont, NY

Set in the rolling hills of Columbia County, Philmont is a quiet village of about 1,200 residents built alongside Summit Lake and Agawamuck Creek. Originally settled on Mohican homelands and later farmed by Dutch colonists, the area grew into a bustling textile center in the nineteenth century when it was known as Factory Hill. You can still see that industrial heritage in the sturdy brick buildings, steep hillside streets, and Victorian-era homes spread across town.

Today, the old mill sites have given way to scenic walking trails and a relaxed, creative community. Agawamuck Creek still tumbles over High Falls right near the village center, where protected parkland and rail trails put nature steps away from Main Street. Between local lakeside parks, farm-to-table food, and a popular community co-op, Philmont offers a friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere with quick access to nearby Hudson and the Berkshires.
