Philomath, OR

Just a few miles west of Corvallis, Philomath offers a quiet, small-town setting right at the base of the Coast Range. With around 5,500 residents, the town gives you a quick commute to Oregon State University and nearby city amenities while keeping a slower, neighborly pace. Its unusual name comes from Greek words meaning "lover of learning," a nod to the 19th-century college around which the community originally grew. Today, Highway 20 runs straight through town, connecting the Willamette Valley to the Oregon Coast.
