Philpot, KY

Philpot is an unincorporated Daviess County community with a name that comes from Augustus J. Philpot, an early settler and the town’s first postmaster. The post office has operated under the Philpot name since the 1870s, and the community sits around the junction of Kentucky Route 54 and 142 southeast of Owensboro. The old elementary school closed in 2005, so elementary students now attend Country Heights Elementary on the edge of Owensboro. That is the practical local read: a named crossroads, a long-running post office, and a rural community folded into the larger Owensboro landscape without becoming part of the city.
