Piedmont, CA

Piedmont is a quiet, upscale enclave completely surrounded by the city of Oakland. Spanning less than two square miles, the town is made up almost entirely of peaceful, tree-lined residential streets and historic homes. Because there is virtually no commercial district within city limits, the neighborhoods remain remarkably quiet. Even with its small footprint in the heart of the East Bay, Piedmont operates with complete independence, maintaining its own city council, top-ranked school system, and dedicated police and fire departments.

That focus on local community dates back over a century and shaped the walkable civic center along Highland and Magnolia avenues. This central hub brings together City Hall, the community center, local schools, the Alan Harvey Theater, and the city pool all within a few blocks. It functions as an everyday meeting spot where parents catch up after school drop-off, students head to rehearsals, and neighbors bump into each other on morning walks.

The city's parks are just as central to daily life. Piedmont Park covers 15 acres of manicured lawns, walking trails along Bushy Dell Creek, and beloved annual traditions like the Fourth of July parade and the Harvest Festival. Nearby, Dracena Quarry Park offers a scenic playground, a redwood grove, and a tucked-away lawn set inside a former rock quarry. When residents need groceries, boutiques, or a night out, they simply head a few minutes down the road into lively Oakland neighborhoods like Grand Avenue or Montclair Village.
