Pinconning, MI

Located on Michigan’s sunrise side just five miles inland from Saginaw Bay, Pinconning is a quiet, tight-knit community of about 1,200 residents. The town got its start in the 1870s as a riverfront logging settlement, but dairy farming soon took center stage. In 1915, local cheesemaker Dan Horn created a distinctive, creamy Colby-style recipe that put the area on the map and became celebrated across the state as Pinconning cheese.

That heritage is still very much alive today in the local specialty shops, the famous giant mouse statue outside Wilson’s, and the lively CheeseTown Festival held each summer. Outdoors lovers appreciate having Pinconning County Park right down the road on Saginaw Bay, which features sandy beach areas, walking trails, boardwalks, and great spots for birding and fishing. It is a comfortable, down-to-earth town that blends quiet coastal living with deep local roots.
