About Pine Grove

At the edge of Schuylkill County's anthracite country, Pine Grove is a borough built along Swatara Creek and Pennsylvania 443. Incorporated in 1832, it grew with the creek and the Union Canal, which once carried coal and other goods through the valley; early railroads added another layer of transport. Pine Grove Area School District places its elementary, middle, and high schools on Route 443, about three miles from Interstate 81's Pine Grove exit, so the same corridor ties school, highway, and the surrounding township together. The borough's creek route now supports fishing, kayaking, and tubing, while old transportation corridors survive in trails and local history. Pine Grove is a Schuylkill County town where a creek, coal-era transport, and a single school corridor still shape the map.
