Pine Hollow, OR

Pine Hollow spreads around Pine Hollow Reservoir in southern Wasco County, where the dry country east of the Cascades opens into a basin of fields, rangeland, juniper, and water. It is an unincorporated community without a compact town center, so the reservoir serves as the clearest local reference point. The lake was built in 1968 with agriculture and recreation in mind, and Wasco County helped create the South Wasco County Park and Recreation District to handle the boat ramps and restrooms. The reservoir keeps a year-round pool for fishing and supports boating, camping, and warm-weather trips. County roads lead from the lake toward the small communities and working landscapes of southern Wasco County, with the dry hills giving way to deeper canyon country farther out. Pine Hollow’s scenery is a mix of human-made water and high-desert country: irrigation ditches, boat ramps, shorelines, cattle ground, and long views under big Oregon skies. If you arrive expecting a downtown, you will miss the point; the community’s center is the water, and the water is tied directly to the farm economy around it.
