About Pine Valley

Pine Valley is a Washington County community in the Pine Valley Mountains, north of St. George and within the high-country landscape of southwestern Utah. The local origin story starts with Isaac Riddle, who found the valley in 1855 while looking for a lost cow and noticed its stands of timber. A sawmill and settlement followed. Pine Valley Chapel, built by early residents in the 1860s, is the recognizable historic landmark, while the surrounding mountains lead into Dixie National Forest and the Pine Valley Wilderness. The name needs a little care because Utah has more than one Pine Valley; this is the Washington County place, shaped by timber, church history, and one road in from the desert.
