Plainview, NE

Plainview is a Pierce County city in northeastern Nebraska, surrounded by open farm country and connected to the Norfolk micropolitan area. Its railroad depot was built in 1880, and the last train came through in 1978. Residents later restored the depot and turned it into the Plainview Historical Museum, keeping the railroad story in the same building that once handled passengers, freight, and news from the outside world. The Carnegie library and Foy George Memorial Band Shell add more pieces to the town's older civic landscape.

Plainview's most memorable local tradition is the Klown Festival, held each June. The Klown Doll Museum on West Park Avenue houses more than 7,000 clown dolls and related pieces, making a playful roadside attraction into a serious town institution. City council records, the park, swimming pool, museum, and Main Street businesses all fold into the festival weekend. Plainview leans into the oddness without losing its prairie-town routines. The result is a city with a railroad depot, a historic library, a band shell, and an enormous collection of clown dolls that locals have made part of the annual calendar.
