Plainwell is a city in Allegan County, Michigan, situated ten miles north of Kalamazoo along the Kalamazoo River. Nicknamed the Island City due to a nineteenth-century power canal that diverts the river around the downtown district, the community of approximately 3,763 is served by the Plainwell Community Schools district for education locally.
