About Plantation
Plantation is a small home-rule city in northeastern Jefferson County, folded into Louisville Metro but still carrying its own city name. Its beginnings were tied to farmland and later pieces of the roughly 100-acre Palmer-Ball farm. The original subdivision grew around the Plantation Swim Club, which ran from 1956 to 2004 and hosted national swimming and diving championships. That gives Plantation a different local story from an old courthouse town: a farm tract became a named residential city, with its streets and boundaries shaped by the club and the Louisville landscape around Westport Road. The city government is part of Metro, but Plantation still reads as its own place on the map.
