About Platinum
Platinum is a city in Bethel Census Area, Alaska, situated on a spit on Goodnews Bay adjacent to the mouth of the Small River, eleven miles southwest of Goodnews and the Kilbuck Mountains. Named in the 1930s for platinum ore found in the area, the site became a mining boomtown by 1937 with a population of 50 and infrastructure of roadhouse and trading posts. With a population of 55 at the 2020 census, the community is served by the Arviq School, operated by the Lower Kuskokwim School District.
