Pleasant Hill, LA

Pleasant Hill is a quiet, close-knit village in northwest Louisiana with an interesting quirk in its past. Founded in the 1840s as a bustling college and trading center, the entire community actually packed up and moved two miles down the road a few decades later to sit right along the new railroad line. Officials briefly named the new depot Sodus, but locals refused to call it anything other than Pleasant Hill, and the original name was officially restored in 1922.

Today, life here revolves around easygoing country living and a proud local heritage. The nearby battlefield hosts a popular reenactment festival every spring, drawing history buffs and families from across the region. Between the local high school, friendly neighbors, and plenty of open space in the piney woods of Sabine Parish, Pleasant Hill has a comfortable small-town rhythm that makes it easy to settle into.
