Pleasant Hill, OH

Pleasant Hill is a Miami County village at the center of Newton Township, where State Routes 48 and 718 cross. It began as Newton—platted in 1843—but the name changed in 1866 when the village incorporated and took the name of a post office located a mile south on a pleasant rise. The post office has operated since 1839, and Newton Local Schools still place a K–12 campus on North Long Street. The village’s history also includes Jesse Beery’s internationally known horsemanship school and Roy Plunkett’s later discovery of Teflon. Pleasant Hill is a compact Dayton-area village with a post-office name, a school center, and a few unusually specific footnotes.
